| | No trip to Cameron Highlands would be complete without visiting the local tea plantations. In 1929, John Archibald Russell, who was the son of a British administrative officer started a tea plantation which is now the famous BOH Tea Plantation. Later, other tea plantations were established in Cameron Highlands, namely the Bharat and Blue Valley plantations.
BOH Tea Plantation estate is wonderfully manicured and visitors are welcome to view the factory production process and enjoy a 'cuppa' at the tea shop, part of a new visitors' centre which provides spectacular views of the plantation. The view of tea trees grown on terraces following the contours of the hill will take your breath away.
Fruit and vegetables such as tomato, cauliflower, cabbage and strawberries thrive in the cool climate and fertile soil of the highlands. You can buy them either from the market or the farm. There are a few strawberry farms that you may visit from Tanah Rata to Brinchang. Some of these farms allow you to pick your own strawberries fresh from the plant. It is always worth a visit to see how strawberries are cultivated and take an opportunity to taste freshly picked strawberries with thick delicious fresh cream.
Flowers are also in abundance here. Cameron Highlands is Malaysia's leading producer of fresh flowers. There are many species that will dazzle you with their wide range of colours and shapes. A number of flower nurseries can be found alongside the main road from Ringlet all the way to Kampung Raja. There are also a number of rose gardens in Cameron Highlands with more than 400 species of roses.
The famous Cactus Valley in Brinchang is one of the biggest and most popular tourist destinations. Located in the cool mountains of Brinchang, Cameron Highlands, Cactus Valley has many varieties of cactus plants, some as old as 60 years. They are grown on landscaped gardens, which make for interesting viewing. There are also other plants such as roses and orchids, apple and peach trees, and cherry tomatoes.
For adventure seekers or pure nature lovers, a walk in the mountains should be on the agenda. The peaks offer a magnificent view of the highlands together with its enchanting mossy forest. There are plenty of jungle walks of varying difficulty and distance to satisfy your interest. Two of them lead to the popular Parit Waterfall and Robinson Waterfall near Tanah Rata. The most popular mountains for hiking are Gunung Brinchang, Gunung Beremban, Gunung Jasar, Gunung Perdah and Bukit Mentigi.
'Pasar Malam' or the Night Market is a place that you should not miss when you are in Brinchang and Tanah Rata. Every Friday and Saturday, peddlers will gather at 4.00 p.m. to set up their little stalls offering you an intriguing variety of souvenirs, vegetables and fruits, plants, cactus, indigenous people's handicrafts and weapons, food and many other things. They are open even during public holidays.
Orang Asli is a Malay term that translates as 'original people'. They are the indigenous people of Malaysia who exist in a quiet yet beautiful world on their own, living on the fringe of mainstream society. It is the world of the forest people. The Orang Asli of Cameron Highlands are from the Senoi, Temier, Jakun and Negrito tribes and many of their villages can be seen in Cameron Highlands and along the road up the hill from the Tapah interchange on the North-South Expressway. You may visit some of these villages deep in the forest with a guide who will provide the necessary information on these people. You will experience how these simple folks live and even try your hand at using the blowpipe, their primary weapon for hunting.
Cameron Highlands Resort offers the following trail excursions:
Jim Thompson Mystery Trail: Jim Thompson's eye for beauty was not only confined to silk and ancient architecture. He had a genuine love of nature and walking off the beaten track, exploring the countryside and its surrounding jungle was one of his special pleasures. On Easter Sunday, March 26, 1967, Jim Thompson set out from the Moonlight Cottage for a mid-afternoon stroll in the jungle; at that point the Thai Silk King stepped out of myth into legend as he was never seen again. Thus, it is with pleasure that we present Cameron Highlands Resort Signature Trail; the 'Jim Thompson Mystery Trail' which combines his passion for the surrounding hills with the mysterious circumstances of his disappearance.
Gunung Brinchang Trail: The Gunung Brinchang trail takes you to the summit of the highest peak in the Highlands. While it is an adventurous trail, more suitable for the fit who enjoy a challenging climb, the peak of Mount Brinchang boasts a spectacular view of the surrounding undulating hills of the Highlands on a clear day. Towards the peak itself, the middle of the trail passes through the fairy-like mossy forest, a rare upper mountain forest area that due to its structure and appearance is sometimes referred to as the elfin or dwarf forest.
Sam Poh Temple Trail: Our trail to the oldest Chinese Temple in the Highlands, while beautiful, has three steep descents towards the end making this a robust trail suitable for enthusiasts who enjoy walking through rough terrain.
Trails to Gunung Berembum: Gunung Berembum or Misty Mountain is an interesting and challenging trek. With three trails leading up to this mountain; Arcadia, Mardi and Robinson Falls, you have three existing points to choose from to begin and end your trek. All three trails are physically challenging and are recommended only to very fit and adventurous individuals.
The Walker Trail: This gentle trail takes you past many fragrant blooms and across a cold water stream. It is a pleasant walk consisting of mostly flat ground with the occasional small climb and descent.
Robinson Falls Trail: This trail will take you to the famous Robinson Falls crossing through a conventional small farm. Most of the trek covers uneven ground there is one steep 150 meter stretch. However, our guide will be delighted to personalize this trail according to your level of fitness.

Guning Mentigi - The Historic Trail: Gunung Mentigi was once an important fort for the British. However, during World War II, it fell, overwhelmed by the Japanese forces. Maintained by the Malayan Army during the Emergency, the natural beauty of this mountain bears witness to the conflicts that shaped the face of Malaysian history.

Your vision will acclimatise to the changing light, your senses will heighten and you will be able to experience the night flora that blooms along the trail, hear the call of the cicadas and the cry of the Jungle Caller.
